The Letter E

Today's blog is brought to you by the letter E

E is for Exercise

Exercise isn’t for everyone and it does take a lot of commitment for someone to do a diligent workout everyday. I do take part in the Zumba classes at the centre (although I have missed 3 classes due to my broken toe). Last week I did take the class but my toe was screaming “what the hell are you doing to me” with every step I took. Since I do Zumba only once every week, I needed an exercise plan that could fit into my life style. I found the perfect program that works for me. Who knows it could work for you too! You’ll never know until you give it a try.

Day 1

Beat around the bush several times
Jump to conclusions all the time
Climb the walls
Wade through the daily paper from start to finish

Day 2

Drag my high heels constantly
Push my luck all the time
Make mountains out of mole hills
Hit the nail on the head regularly

Day 3

Skate around the issues for awhile
Bend over backwards
Jump onto the latest bandwagon
Pat myself on the back just for the fun of it

Day 4

Run around in circles all day long
Blow my own horn constantly
Pull out all the stops for just a minute
Add oodles of fuel to the fire

Day 5

Open a can of worms or Pandora's box just to see what's inside
Put my foot in my mouth regularly
Start the ball rolling often
Go fly a kite in the morning and go over the edge at night

Day 6

Pick up the pieces (before Humpty Dumpty screws it up with 'crazy glue')
Raise the roof as much as I want
Lift a pint when the spirit moves me
Skip the laundry, or for that matter the washing up

Day 7

Give myself a great big hug
Blow someone a kiss
Smile for no reason
Cuddle anyone who needs it
What an amazing workout!

The Letter D

Todays blog is brought to you be the letter D

D is for Dance

It took me a long time before I reached this point in my life, but I finally arrived. I had to burn some bridges, take off the so called “Rose coloured glasses” and accept within myself what needed to be discarded. I had to hurt, feel hurt and then move on. I found that I don’t need the approval of anyone and I don’t need to do,say or act a different way to make people notice me. I have decided that if people can’t handle me at my worst…then they certainly don’t deserve me at my best!

Life's a Dance!!!

When I was fourteen I was falling fast
For a blue-eyed girl in my homeroom class
Tryin' to find the courage to ask her out
Was like trying to get oil from a water spout
What she would've said, I can't say
I never did ask, she move away
I learned something from my blue-eyed girl
Sink or swim, you ought to give it a whirl

Life's a dance you learn as you go
Sometimes you lead, sometimes you follow
Don't worry 'bout what you don't know
Life's a dance you learn as you go

The longer I live, the more I believe
You do have to give if you want to receive
There's a time to listen and a time to talk
And you might have to crawl
Even after you walk
I've had sure things blow up in my face
Seen the longshot win the race
Been knocked down by the slamming door
Picked myself up and came back for more

Life's a dance you learn as you go
Sometimes you lead, sometime you follow
Don't worry 'bout what you don't know
Life's a dance you learn as you go

The Letter C

Today’s blog is brought to you by the letter C

C is for Coffee

Caffeine is my shepherd; I shall not doze.
It maketh me to wake in green pastures:
It leadeth me beyond the sleeping masses.
It restoreth my buzz:
It leadeth me in the paths of consciousness for its name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of addiction,
I will fear no Equal:
For thou art with me; thy cream and thy sugar they comfort me.
Thou preparest a carafe before me in the presence of my sleep filled eyes:
Thou anointest my day with pep; my mug runneth over.
Surely richness and taste shall follow me all the days of my life:
And I will dwell in the House of Coffee forever.

The Letter B

B is for Bentley

Bentley – Born May 15th 2009.
Adopted – July 4th 2009
Went to my new home on July 7th 2009.

My name is Bentley and I’m a Golden Retriever. I was just a wee baby when I joined my new mommy and her family. I really can’t remember too much during the first few weeks of settling into my new home. My adopted mommy said I cried a lot, but as the days wore on I began to fit in.

From the different pictures I have seen I grew really fast. I stopped chewing on toes and ankles and began to have a liking for furniture. This didn’t make my mommy to happy and I got scolded on more than a few occasions. I tried to be a good boy and most times I left the furniture alone turning my attention to the bathroom. It’s really interesting in this room and I have found something that really intrigues me. The white stuff that comes off the wall when pulled is really a cool toy. I’m not sure why, but I like the taste of it too. I have been told it’s too expensive to play with and mommy has scolded me for that too. I don’t really understand why when they just let it hang there and then throw some away down that huge water bowl that makes things disappear. I might just as well have some fun with it without mommy knowing. There are other furry creatures that I can play with in the house, but when I catch them and start to play with them they get mean and hiss and growl at me. They have really sharp claws too. It makes me cry when they hit my nose. Their claws seem to bite into my nose and they won’t let go until mommy comes running. Then they look all upset and stuff and I’m the one that gets into trouble. I don’t think that’s very fair!

On my first birthday mommy took me swimming in the river. I had to have a rope tied onto my collar so mommy could rescue me if the water tried to swallow me up or worse yet have the water carry me away because this water moves fast. At first I was scared cause I had never been swimming before. But as soon as mommy threw that stick into the water it was like I was an Olympic swimmer. I swam for a long time and when mommy said it was time to go I was really upset but she promised to take me swimming again. I can’t wait!

The man that lives in the house with mommy gets mad at me a lot. He says I have A.D.H.D. I don’t know what that means but mommy tells me not to worry about it. She tells the man that I am just a very busy boy with lots of energy. The man does play with me, but because I am stronger and faster than him he gets mad and stops playing with me. I try to jump at him to coax him to play, but that just gets him madder at me. When he gets really mad I go and sit beside mommy. That makes me feel better. Sometimes I get mad at the man too and I will do things just to bug him. Mommy scolds me for that too, but if you look carefully, mommy tries to hide a smile. Well it’s kinda cloudy out today and I am bored, so mommy is going to let me outside to play. I love being outside and my favourite thing to do is dig really big holes all over the yard. That really makes the man mad, but that’s another story for another time!

The Letter A

The other day I was reading a blog and noticed something pretty cool. On this blog was sort of an advertisement to sign up for a A-Z blogging. I checked this out and it seemed pretty cool. Since the beginning of the month has now passed by 9 days I’m going to try this type of blogging on my own. I’ll start today and end in 26 days. I’ll not worry about whether or not I have begun on the first day of a month. Some of the blogs will be about me and some will just be silly off my head kinds of topics. Either way, It’ll be fun for me and yes, I guess I’m stealing someone else’s idea, but what the hey….sue me!........

A is for Alligator,

One of my favourite vacations was when I went to South Carolina with my cousin and oldest daughter 3 years ago. It was a fabulous vacation giving me 10 days of stress free time. I was so excited about going since I had only read about places like Myrtle Beach. One of the main things I had been warned about (and rightly so) were that the Alligators are as common as seeing deer in the wetlands and forest areas of our city. I was absolutely awestruck the first day we arrived. The city it’s self was amazing. The temperature was 85 degrees and we could actually smell the ocean as we drove through the city towards the condo.

The day after we arrived I went out with the camera, like all tourists, and ran across this sign on the bank of the small pond on the condo’s property. It made me laugh since signs like this are hard to comprehend.

That is until I turned and focused my eyes on the pond. Well hells bells I almost jumped out of my own skin when I saw this Alligator. Once I got over the shock I couldn’t help but stare in amazement at this creature that was coasting through the water. Each time a sound was made this Alligator slowly submerged downward and then after a few moments he surfaced again. It certainly was a treat watching him.

Nothing to do but wait....

Lots of people limit their possibilities by giving up easily. Never tell yourself this is too much for me. It's no use. I can't go on. If you do you're licked, and by your own thinking too. Norman Vincent Peale

Well, once again my little corner of the world is preparing them selves to accept yet another passing. This time it is my Mother-in law. For months now she has been sliding downward. It actually began a few years back when my husbands’ family had to face the quick and very unexpected death of a sister and daughter. Then just a few short years later another child/sibling became ill and passed away with cancer. It was evident that my Mother-in-law never really got over the grief of losing 2 of her children. She has now lost all will to live and has been placed on home “palliative care” notice. She has had every test imaginable and there is nothing wrong with her except her inner will to keep going.
Those who know my history with this family will understand my thoughts. Those who do not, will be scritchen their heads in puzzlement. I was never accepted by my In-Laws and over the years I have often joked and called them “The Out-Laws”. There have been many pissy cat fights between my Mother-in-Law and myself and on a few rare occasions some vocal and very verbal screaming matches. As I grew and matured I learned how to turn the other cheek and bite back my words and thoughts. …..until now.

I can not imagine losing a child and then a few years later losing another. The hurt must be horrendous at the very least. I do have a problem when there are other children involved. Yes all the kids are grown adults and they too lost two siblings and their hurt is just as staggering although in a different way. What I can not seem to grasp is the willingness to not want go on and to envelope ones self in the love of the other children. Young children or adult children it makes no difference. They are still your children. The family has no choice now but to sit and watch their mother literally die before their eyes. As I said before, there is no disease running rampant through her body. Just the lack of will to continue her life. I will be honest, it does make me angry to see the hurt in her families eyes as they stand vigil by her bedside trying to come to terms with this senseless act. The palliative home-care nurse has indicated that this could end shortly or it could last for weeks or even months. I am trying hard to hide my anger about this but each day it just continues to grow. I can do nothing but shake my head…but am I shaking my head in sadness?...or in anger? I really don’t know.

Happy April

What a wonderful sun shinny spring day! At least at this point it is. I’m sitting at work, the sun is shining into the office making it feel warm and inviting for a change. It is calling for cloud and rain, but the temperature is supposed to get up to about 7 today. When I arrived this morning, it was still rather frosty but my eyes travelled to the garden at the center and low and behold the green tulip leaves have sprouted and pushed their way up passed all the dead leaves and brown mulch. I saw 2 robins hopping about the parking lot indicating MY first official feeling of Spring. A new season brings new beginnings in every avenue of life.

I’m not sure what I would classify the past week. It’s really been a roller coaster of emotions which will be one for the books. I did spend a bit of time by myself and took a very long walk on Saturday. I wasn’t sure where I was going, but with my mini mp3 player tucked into my coat pocket and my ear phones securely in my ears I began to just walk. I think deep in my mind I knew where I would end up and sure enough I did. I had a nice chat with someone that I haven’t spoken to in a very long time which made me feel better and then off I went again making my way back home. I was able to clear my mind and emotions and as I stepped back into the house I felt good. I even did some major house cleaning which was sorely needed. Walking really is good for blowing out some cobwebs and clearing your mind.

I am kind of torn about my up and coming trip to the north this summer. I have been checking out the different forms of transportation and the costs. I have totally stricken off taking the Grey Hound since it would take forever to get there, plus the fact of sitting all cramped up for that long is not an enjoyable thought. My friend mentioned taking a small plane ride from Toronto and after checking it out online it’s a very good idea since the cost is well within my budget and the airport in the north is a short drive to my friends place. The other idea I am tossing around is going by train. Now the cost is a bit more and the travel time also is a major downfall, but damn it sounds like fun!

I have been paying close attention to my surroundings and I can say that my eyes have been opened in more ways than one. If I’m to be honest with myself I guess I believed only what I wanted to believe and even though time after time actions spoke louder than words, I refused to see what was before me. I did try to not take things personally but well after so many times of being smacked with the invisible anvil it’s rather hard not to take things personally. Sometimes “pulling up the big girl panties” and “sucking it up princess” does not hold true. There are times when you just have to go with your gut instinct and move to more comfortable and rewarding phase in your life.

"Every man has three characters—that which he exhibits, that which he has, and that which he thinks he has." (Alphonse Karr)
