Hypnosis

"a trance state characterized by extreme suggestibility, relaxation and heightened imagination."  It is a mental state (according to "state theory") or imaginative role-enactment (according to "non-state theory"). It is usually induced by a procedure known as a hypnotic induction, which is commonly composed of a long series of preliminary instructions and suggestions. Hypnotic suggestions may be delivered by a hypnotist in the presence of the subject.

I was one of the biggest skeptics when it came to this type of suggestive therapy. Unless I had 100 percent proof that one person could put another person in a dream like state and then suggest certain things in order for the one in the dream like state to heed the words the hypnotist suggests, it was just a bunch of bull pucky to me. I consider myself to be a person in control of my thoughts (although sometimes my mouth causes havoc with bouts of verbal diarrhea) and I pride myself on being able to figure out what is fact and what is acting for lack of a better word. Well the question of whether Hypnotists are real was certainly answered for me and on a first hand account.

A couple years back a group of my friends and I went to a local Tavern to enjoy a night out which included a show from an Adult Entertainer Hypnotist. Maybe someone has heard of him since he apparently does shows all over the world, his name is David Curran and he has gained the title of “The Bad Boy of Hypnosis”. Well me being one that needs to “de-bunk” claims of any type I was really excited. My oldest daughter was with us and when David Curran asked for volunteers my daughter (thanks to a few alcoholic drinks) quickly volunteered herself AND me. I am sooooooooo not one for attention so I tried hard to say no. She grabbed my arm and pulled me up and whispered, lets prove this guy wrong…… well those words made my legs step up the stairs to the stage.

Once all us volunteers were seated, David Curran began by saying that only people that have open minds and a good imagination could be put under this type of hypnosis. Well there you go, here I was on this stage in front of everyone and I was going to look like the foolish one. My mind was closed when it came to hypnosis but I do have a good imagination so I was prepared to be told to leave the stage as David began to work his so called hypnosis on us. I quickly got myself in check so I could exit the stage with some grace and a few laughs as the room darkened and grew silent. There was this weird music playing and David’s soothing voice told us to step into the elevator of our minds. From that moment on, I was not me, well I was but my mind wasn’t mine………

I’ll not get into detail because this was very ADULT oriented but I will say I said things…I did things and I became things that I never imagined myself to say, do and be. Hells bells I even saw Tim Mcgraw in the audience and no word of a lie, I left the stage and went directly over to him. I lifted my shirt and had him autograph the left side of my bared flesh. Needless to say it was NOT Tim McGraw. In fact it was just some poor fellow that was with his girl friend out for an enjoyable evening. But to me he WAS Tim McGraw and I was almost drooling over him. My daughter and I along with the other volunteers did some very risqué things up on that stage and yes some things we did are not meant to be written about in a public blog!

When the show was coming to a conclusion David directed us to step into the elevator of our minds once again but also gave each of us a certain thing to follow once we were off the stage. His suggestion for me was that as long as I am inside the Tavern anyone that shakes my hand and says hello, I will tell them I love them. He also directed us to know that as soon as we stepped out the door of the tavern, everything that happened would slowly come back to us. We all got into that elevator and slowly came back to reality. It really was weird because it was like no time had passed and yet we were on the stage for well over an hour. We all sat looking at each other and shrugged as we left the stage. David was apologizing to the audience that he had to cancel the show and we were mumbling about how we got ripped off because we sat on that stage for nothing, unbeknownst to us that we WERE the show. People did shake my hand and said that even though the show was cancelled, they admired me for getting up there in the first place. My sister in law can attest to the fact that I told many people that night that I really and truly loved them along with telling everyone some very embarrassing moments that happened that night.

When my daughter and I left the building it took a few minutes to comprehend what we did during our time on stage. We looked at each other and said in a whispered voice….O.M.G lets not ever talk about this night again!. It did take a lot of scrubbing to get the name Tim off my side. Needless to say I had some explaining to do to my other half the next morning!!!!!!

Here is a link to a David Curran video if anyone wishes to check it out for some giggles (and NO I am not in it!)

Will look at the video because I've never heard of this guy. I'd be the type to want to de-bunk hypnosis...and probably end up in the exact state you found yourself. Really enjoyed your 'H' post, and LOVE your blog name. ☺ Looking forward to more of your A to Z posts. Happy Monday! ☺

My husband tried to hypnotize me once. He was practicing for a class he was taking. i don't think it too, but he tells me that I bark everytime the door bell rings.

So that was YOU with the boob!
I bark every time the door rings, too. Ans sometimes Mrs. Penwasser lets me hang my head out the window of the car.
I tried licking myself once, but I ended up in traction.

Oh my goodness, what an experience THAT must have been! I can certainly imagine my daughter getting up on that stage, but not sure if I have the nerve. Fun post. Count me in as your newest follower. Happy A-Zing!

Holy crap! I wished I could try something like this. I've always been curious about hypnosis and though I believe in it, I'm not sure it can be considered a therapeutical endeavor; not to mention the fact that there are so many charlatans about it, you can never be sure if you're dealing with the real thing. Now, as an entertainment kinda thing, I'm all for it! I will be looking for his guy coming to my town.

Thanks for this!
