My Pet Peeve for the Letter X
One of my favorite holidays is Christmas. I’ll be the first
to admit I still love believing in the magic and even though we all know how
commercialized it has become I still love the thought of Santa. My pet peeve is
the fact so many people get up in arms about shortening the word Christmas to
Xmas. The reasoning behind this upset is that the word Xmas does more damage in
adding to the way Christmas has become so commercialized. I myself use the shortened word especially
when I’m in the chat mod either by text messages or by chatting with friends and
family on a social network. I’m not religious but I do know what Christmas is
and what it represents. It just seems funny that the ones that make a big deal
of the greeting Merry Xmas are usually the ones that spend mega money during
the holiday season ignoring the fact that they are also contributing to the commercialized
aspects of Christmas.

I don't have a preference either way. I don't shorten it but that's my choice. I don't freak out if someone else does. Nor do I care if someone else says "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas" I just don't want to be told I can't say what I want…unless I'm cursing out a small child. Then, yeah, I get it.
